You can now easily search for a PEF approved charity by name, by key-word and by category.
If you click on our “charity” tab, you can scroll to the bottom of the page and Browse by Category:
If you are looking (e.g.) for an organization that is involved with service to the autistic community, you would click on “Health”
Once you click on “Autism” you will pull up a list of our approved charities who have an association with Autism.
Sometimes the results might be surprising….
The other day, I was reviewing a report from The Israel Guide Dog Center for the Blind. and learnt that only 65% of the dogs they train become guide dogs. The 35% who are “drop-outs” are still highly trained and valuable dogs. They are bred and raised to be exceptionally responsive to human needs. These dogs are placed as service companions in homes with blind children, autistic children, soldiers with PTSD, people with epilepsy or other brain disorders, Israelis who are deaf, paralyzed or have other disabilities. What this means is that EVERY puppy they raise serves a person in need. it also means that why should be listed under our “Autism” category. We update our data-base twice a month, so I’ll make sure we set the record straight.
The Israel Guide Dog Center doesn’t yet have the capacity to fully train these “career change” dogs for all the special tasks required and would love to expand this service sometime in the future. If you’re interested in helping, let me know.
