Project Wadi Attir is a groundbreaking initiative of a Bedouin community in the Negev desert and the US-based Sustainability Laboratory. The project combines traditional Bedouin values, know-how, and experience with modern-day science and technology showcasing The Lab’s holistic approach to sustainable development.. The core of the project involves a model farming enterprise showcasing animal husbandry (a mixed herd of sheep and goats); production of high-quality traditional Bedouin dairy products; cultivation of medicinal plants and indigenous vegetables with related health products; demonstration of a significant ecosystem restoration initiative; demonstration of green technologies; operation of the only Agricultural school in Bedouin society; and a Visitors Center drawing tourists from around the country and the world. The project’s unique, comprehensive approach to community-based development has gained significant local and international recognition. Its multiple positive impacts in the region, specifically on the Bedouin community, have been widely recognized.
