Freddie Krivine Foundation

Each week, hundreds of Israeli Arab and Jewish children enjoy the sport of tennis in a unique programme run by the Freddie Krivine Foundation. When Freddie Krivine was President of the Israel Tennis Association from 1992 to 2005, he noticed that there were remarkably few Arab tennis players in Israel. Since the Arab sector represents one-fifth of the population, Freddie felt the need to correct the imbalance. He founded a committee of like-minded Arab and Jewish friends, with the intention of giving Arab children the opportunity to learn the sport. From the outset the program was a great success and when Freddie died in 2005, sufficient impetus was created for his daughter Jane to continue the project, now named after her late father. Partnerships with local authorities, schools and the national lottery have opened up myriad opportunities to expand tennis in the Arab community. With grants from the Freddie Krivine Foundation, former basketball courts, disused tennis courts, playgrounds and asphalted areas have been refurbished and repainted. In addition to creating tennis courts in the heart of the community, scores of coexistence programmes with Jewish schools and clubs have been opened up.
