The TERRA-UMA association is a non-profit set to empower wounded veterans who served in the IDF by increasing the sense of personal worth, breaking mental barriers, and helping to establish renewed life post service. TERRA-UMA (Terra earth, Uma calm and peace) was founded by Tomer Weinberg, who was severely injured during the kidnapping of Ehud Goldwasser and Eldad Regev, at the second Lebanese war in 2006. Tomer now wishes to pass on his insights from the long rehabilitation to help others. We believe that the first step to recovery is taking responsibility over your life, despite all the difficulties. Even though it might sound strange, we think that the injury brings many benefits that may be discovered and leveraged. We think that working with the earth can spark creativity and motivation to learn and act, which can result in mending the senses lost in battle and helping overcome physical and mental injuries. This process helps the veterans gain back their lost freedom and helps them return to society from a more empowered position. The combatants we support are headed out for a year long journey, to discover the wine world, work in the vineyard and the winery, accompanied by industry leading professionals. They work in small groups, together with expert winemakers and therapists, so that they get full attention in every single moment. Together we harvest and process grapes to produce quality wine. Every veteran produces about three hundred bottles that are unique in their blend and design. These bottles can tell the world the unique story of the veteran behind them the injury, the struggle and the rehabilitation. A message in a bottle. This year we are planting the first accessible vineyard in the world, in Bat Shlomo. A farm area of 2.7 hectares was donated to the association in order to allow every wounded IDF veteran to experience farming, to work hard, to connect to the earth, to meet other people, to open their hearts and let nature do the healing. Next year a new group of veterans will go through the process of making wine, and the team from this year will embark on the second part of this journey self-discovery of one’s destiny and reaching fulfilment. They will receive the help of experienced mentors depending on their goals. Donations will help us reach more veterans that were wounded during their service, and help them go through a life renewing journey. These donations will allow us to purchase accessibility equipment and expand the organization. The TERRA-UMA team works voluntarily without pay in order to help these wounded veterans return to normal life. We believe in this mission and hope others can help and support us in this cause.
