SULAM was established in 1981 with the purpose of enabling people (from infants through teenagers) with special needs to attain the highest quality of life they are capable of achieving and having each child successfully integrate into society. Its educational programs include an early intervention program for babies and toddlers suffering from developmental delays, communication classes serving children with communication disorders, an elementary and high school that caters to girls with various difficulties, and much more. Its therapeutic programs include various types of individual and group therapy ranging from speech and communication and occupational therapy to art and sport therapy. Additionally, SULAM offers afternoon learning enrichment programs, camps and vacation days, trips and educational tours, family support programs, and public services.
