MISSION: The Society for Advancement of Education (SAE) is a non-profit organization empowering youth from disadvantaged communities in Israel to attain distinction in their social, educational and leadership endeavors. ACTIVITIES: Over the past 50 years, SAE has established eight high schools and residential education campuses in Jerusalem, Kfar Saba and Netanya, reaching over 2,000 youth from Israel’s geographic and economic periphery and urban centers. SAE also operates two national scale, immigrant integration projects: The Naale Elite Academy, which enables Jewish teens from 42 countries to complete their high school tuition in Israel, has just celebrated 20 years since its founding, and boasts over 13,000 graduates to date. The Steering Center for Ethiopian Immigrants is the largest national project of its kind, providing daily educational and social support for over 10,000 Ethiopian-Israeli children under the age of 18. LAY LEADERSHIP: SAE’s governing board is led by Yosi Ashkenazi, himself a graduate of the first residential education campus established by SAE in 1964. Ashkenazi is joined by eight volunteers, five of whom are also SAE graduates. All board members perform key functions in Israeli civil society in fields such as education, medicine and good governance.
