The G.I.L.A.T. project aims to prevent intellectual disabilities and to assist children with intellectual disabilities at the highest environmental risk and to enable them to integrate into the mainstream educational system. These children (infants and young children) are growing up in the most psycho-social deprived families in the community have a slim chance to benefit from any conventional program. G.I.L.A.T. provides educators to work with children in their natural environments (homes). These educators form relationships with the children, act as mentors, and providing verbal and enriching reactions to the child. These reactions are realistic, logic, rich, accurate, and relevant in nature, features which have been proven to develop the cognitive abilities of young children. Visits to museums, libraries, zoos, etc. are also a part of the activities.
