Shikmim – The Educational Agricultural Institution is a public, non-profit established near Rechovot in 1982 providing educational, vocational and residential services to young adults diagnosed with cognitive and developmental disabilities. A special house was built for this purpose in the nearby city of Ness Ziona with services set up for this population including educational, physical and occupational rehabilitation workshops, integrative programs with the general community, cultural activities, hikes, and vacations. The founders and main supporters have been the Almog family, whose son Uri was born with a developmental disability and is one of the residents of “Shikmim House”. The efforts of the founding parents have profoundly influenced and contributed to the development of unique service delivery systems for persons with disabilities in Israel. In all of our activities, we strive to provide our members and residents with a supportive environment (in the workplace and in their home), that will empower them and give them a strong sense of belonging.
