Schaller Emergency Medical Centre serves as a triage unit and the only emergency medical facility serving the city Arad and the entire area. The Schaller Centre, comprises an emergency room and a medical center which operates at nights, on weekends and national holidays. The medical center is run by an expert doctor and his staff, and is staffed with laboratory supplies and digital X-ray machines Each year it provides emergency medical care to some 5,000 residents of Arad and the surrounding kibbutzim, Bedouin settlements, as well as guests at nearby Dead Sea hotels. The Medical Centre operates at times when health fund clinics and doctors’ offices are closed – from 7 PM to 6 AM on weekdays, and from Friday at 2 PM until Sunday morning. One family doctor and one nurse (out of a staff of six doctors and four nurses) are on call at all times to diagnose and treat medical conditions and injuries. Lives have been saved through the quick intervention of the staff at the Schaller Emergency Medical Centre and the virtue of the distance Arad being far from the nearest hospital, has saves many lives.
