The Ohavei Asaf Foundation is dedicated to education, strengthening Israel’s national resilience, and preserving the values and legacy of Colonel Asaf Hamami. Asaf served as the Commander of the Southern Brigade and was the first to declare war on the morning of October 7th. He fell in battle while heroically defending Kibbutz Nirim. His body was abducted to Gaza and was returned to Israel for eternal rest two years later. The foundation’s activities are focused on two strategic pillars: 1. Unique & Long-term Support for Reservists (Men & Women) The foundation implements unique, long-term programs designed to provide a sustained support system for IDF reservists returning to civilian life. Our intensive six-month program offers a holistic framework focusing on: ? Financial Empowerment: Practical tools and guidance for long-term financial stability. ? Professional Guidance: Personalized career orientation and vocational placement. ? Personal Resilience: Strengthening mental and emotional well-being through ongoing communal and professional support. ? Motivation: Ensuring the continued commitment and motivation for reserve service as a vital national asset. 2. The Asaf Pre-Military Academy (Mechina) We are establishing the Asaf Mechina, a 10-month mixed pre-military academy located in Moshav Mivtahim, in the heart of the Gaza Envelope. The academy is designed to prepare participants for meaningful service in the IDF while fostering a new generation of initiators—young adults who are humble, resilient, and deeply committed to a life of social mission. As a core component of the program, the participants will actively take part in the ongoing rehabilitation and reconstruction of the Gaza Envelope communities. Officially approved by the Ministry of Defense and scheduled to launch in September 2027, the academy is a key part of preserving Asaf’s legacy in the sector he protected.
