Moshav Aderet is nestled in the foothills of Jerusalem in the Ha’Eila Valley adjacent to Beit Shemesh. Over the past 25 years, the moshav has undergone 2 expansions with new neighborhoods attracting a cross-section of Israeli society and bringing new vitality to the community. With the influx of more residents, a new Beit Knesset has been planned and construction started earlier this year but on October 7th, everything changed. Early on in the war, Itai Moreno, son of Tammy and Moshe Moreno and husband to Gal, fell in battle bringing further tragedy to the Moreno family who lost Emanuel, a brother and uncle, in the Lebanon war. To this day Emanuel is recognized as one of the great military heroes of our time. The Moreno family together with the Aderet community are now accelerating the building of the synagogue and wish to complete it and name it Am Ehad (aleph for Itai, eyin for Emanuel.. and with a name to help bring the nation together). The amuta (non profit organization) raising money for the shul welcomes donations to help its speedy completion. In addition, the moshav sits within 700 meters of the separation fence, with the West Bank on the other side. We are acutely aware of the potential for an attack across this fence similar to the tragedy that befell the communities around Gaza. The amuta is therefore raising funds to purchase the equipment necessary to properly equip our First Response Team allowing it deter, detect and defend our community as necessary.
