In April 2002, during hand to hand combat action with terrorists from Shechem, Sergeant Major Nir Krichman of the Navy’s 13th Flotilla fell in battle. Nir’s z’l commanding officers decided to memorialize his life by a unique educational program. The Nirim Foundation established in Nir’s memory and initiated and operated under the auspices of the 13th Flotilla, is proud to have created unique educational programs: “Nirim in the Neighborhood” and “The Nirim Youth Village” that supports over 500 youth at high risk throughout the country. These projects give youth a second chance and in some cases their last chance to find their way back to the consensus of society and to normative community life as contributing members.
