Micha – Haifa and the North, Society for the Education of Deaf Children provides treatment, education, and rehabilitation for 130 hearing impaired infants and children (0-6), Jews (including new immigrant from Russia and Ethiopia) and Arabs in all northern Israel. Its mission is to help the children acquire language and communication skills and enable them to integrate successfully into the mainstream school system and the hearing society. We operate out of 2 centers: In Haifa & Tiberius and operate 3 daycares for infants aged 1-3 and 7 preschools. We provide hearing tests, programs for teaching speech and communication as well as social, emotional and cognitive skills and various therapies: occupational, music and arts. In addition, counseling, guidance, support groups, and instruction in sign language are offered to the parents. Hearing impaired children are also integrated once a week into regular kindergartens to expose the children to the hearing society.
