Meshulash was founded in 1976 and provides dental treatment to people in need, ages 3 and up. Meshulash does not run a special designated clinic for the needy and each patient is referred to the private clinic of the volunteering dentist. The best dentists that Jerusalem and other cities have to offer are the ones that offer, volunteer, and give their time to Meshulash and the populations it services. The treatments we give are fillings, periodontics, surgical and simple tooth extractions, root canal treatments, implants, crowns, partial and complete dentures and orthodontics. The patients only pay the cost of the technicians’ work, which is provided at a significant discount. Under special circumstances as determined by our social workers, we provide even the technician’s work free of charge and bear the costs ourselves. All of the patients are referred to us by the welfare authorities who have the information concerning the patient’s income and needs. We only provide treatment if the patient or his or her spouse are working for a living. A person who cannot work due to his or her health status or age, is required to volunteer in his or her community. We have succeeded in rehabilitating patients by, among other things, installing them with work ethics and with the importance of contribution to society by either working or volunteering. In addition to providing treatment to the needy, treatment is offered to cancer patients, Holocaust survivors, single mothers, new immigrants to Israel, patients with or in need of organ transplants, and mentally or physically handicapped people.
