Ma’an is a new nonprofit organization pushing towards social change, educational change, cultural change, and the advancement and inclusion of Muslim Israeli Arabs into mainstream Israeli society. The way towards change and integration starts with a partnership between the Arab sector and the State of Israel. It starts with empowerment, resilience and equality in order to build a society that is safe, just and thriving, for everyone who lives in Israel. Ma’an believes that equal rights for all inhabitants are part of a larger package where all inhabitants equally shoulder the burdens of national security and building a just society. Being equal does not mean we all have to be the same, but it does mean we all choose to be partners in creating and upholding a correct society with equal opportunities for all, based on a feeling of national responsibility for our land, our society and each other. Bret Aravet works to foster a feeling of belonging for Muslim Arabs who live in Israel, but do not necessarily feel Israeli. Integration of the Israeli Arab sector into mainstream Israeli society occurs when Israeli Arabs join the IDF; therefore our main goal is to encourage and enable every Muslim Israeli Arab who wishes to become a soldier. Bret Aravet provides support to all Muslims who have joined the IDF (or other branches of National Service) by helping them to negotiate the system and by providing individualized personal help. We work on education and building leadership skills than can empower the next generation to bring about social, cultural and educational change through our work with high school students, soldiers and graduates. Bret Aravet provides scholarships and support for Israeli Arabs who have finished their army or national service and want to pursue higher education so that they can continue to integrate into civilian society.
