LOTEM- Making Nature Accessible

Established in 1993, LOTEM- Making Nature Accessible offers educational nature programs for children and adults with special needs. These include the blind and visually impaired, deaf and hearing impaired, intellectually and physically challenged, and emotionally disturbed. They also include women and children in threat of physical and emotional abuse. LOTEM’s activities include field trips to various nature reserves throughout Israel, afternoon nature clubs at schools, half-way houses, and other institutional settings throughout the country, and workshops at its ecological farm in Emek HaShalom. Depending on the season, participants also make wine in its accessible wine-press, olive oil in its accessible olive press, and pita bread over an open fire. In addition, LOTEM’s professional staff of nature guides has developed a large range of pedagogical materials for working with special needs participants.
