Keren Makpetzah (Jumpstart Fund) helps low income Israelis increase their income by providing free loans and grants to individuals starting a new business venture or expanding an existing one. Keren Makpetzah strives to help Israelis increase, or jumpstart their income even when an individual may not be eligible for a loan from a financial institution. Often, start-up businesses or ventures are not eligible for loans at Israeli banks. Sometimes, the documentation requirements and other bureaucratic challenges are so prohibitive, that it deters people from even trying to obtain financing through traditional means. Foreigners living in Israel have a particularly difficult time, and are a key focus group of Keren Makpetzah. Keren Makpetzah has helped numerous individuals with fee loans for the purpose of building a rental unit on their existing property, something that is particularly difficult to obtain traditional financing for. Keren Makpetzah also provides loans and grants to individuals enrolling in courses that can directly lead to an increase in their earning potential. In addition to its focus on helping individuals/families increase their income, Keren Makpetzah also works with other Amutot to provide assistance to low income families who are struggling to cover their basic needs. Keren Makpetzah has provided funding to numerous neighborhood food pantries to help provide for families living in poverty. An additional focus of Keren Makpetzah is funding youth groups for kids at risk and for mainstream kids to help prevent them from becoming at risk. Again, Keren Makpetzah works with existing Amutot to provide funding for their youth group programming.
