Kehilat Netivot functions as a full community synagogue with a diverse membership and dynamic programming. We are approximately 100 membership units who worship with us almost every Shabbat, with hundreds of others joining us for holidays, In particular, many of our non-religious neighbors come for Yom Kippur and on Simchat Torah when many religious women from outside the community come to celebrate and dance with us. Some of our cornerstone activities continue to be a family Shavuot dinner and learning at the shul, with approximately another 250 joining us for the tikkun leyl, both a men and women’s megilla reading on Purim followed by a Purim show for young families, Sukkot in the rabbi’s home for the youth (various age groups going on different days), Hoshana Rabba tefila and breakfast, a tekes maavar between Yom Hazikaron and Yom Haazmaut, and a breakfast on the beach for Yom Haatzmaut. In further efforts to focus on the youth in our community, during shabbatot throughout the year, the youth are invited to the rabbi’s home for Shabbat dinner together by grade. After a bit of a break we have again instituted a separate children’s tefila run by different members of our community. A regular Shabbat finds our kehila at capacity, with a light, more health-conscious, Kiddush after services and shiurim both in the morning and on Shabbat afternoon. We have the privilege of celebrating many smachot at our synagogue. As we have reported in the past, we have a strong emphasis on Bat Mitzvahs in our community, with many of the girls choosing to read from the Torah in the context of a women’s reading. A number of other Bat Mitzvah girls from other synagogues choose to celebrate with Kehilat Netivot because of the opportunities offered in our community. We are still supporting our “mincha bar mitzvah program” for non-religious families who seek to have a bar mitzva in Bet Avraham. It is a successful program and we are happy we can provide an avenue for non-religious families to incorporate Judaism and Jewish traditions into their family life cycle. We continue to be blessed with a diverse membership which evidences itself in a number of ways including that our synagogue now has both Ashkenazi and Sephardi torah scrolls. Our students are serve in assorted units in the army everything from an air force pilot to someone who handles the iron dome missile system. We have graduates in mechinot and yeshivot and the hesder program,. Our membership includes members of the government, press, lawyers, doctors, accountants, teachers, both native Israelis and immigrants, and we are proud of our diversity.
