Kehillat B’Orcha was founded in Jerusalem in 2009 by Religious Zionist families dedicated to creating a very special shul, one that is welcoming, joyful and respectful, and meets the needs of the Jewish People. B’Orcha builds Jewish commitment through dedication to learning and growth alongside powerful prayer and song, while providing hope and healing for Jews and Jewish communities in Israel and beyond. Drawing upon our unique strengths and the work we have been doing for years, we seek to build a permanent home and foster resilience among those well beyond our circle. In 2024 the City of Jerusalem allotted ground to the B’Orcha community on which to build such a home. Capt. (Res.) Rabbi Avi Goldberg was a pillar of the B’Orcha community and was a leading figure in all its activities. Avi died a hero’s death in October 2024, when he was killed in Lebanon while serving as an IDF rabbi the first and only IDF rabbi in the history of Israel to die in combat, fighting shoulder to shoulder with his soldiers. His widow, Rachel, has asked that the new building be a center to preserve his legacy, and we are honored to dedicate it as such.
