The Israeli Service Dog Training Center is a non-profit organization established to provide and train service dogs for individuals and families struggling with PTSD, physical or mental disability, Diabetes, Epilepsy and children on the Autistic spectrum. Service dogs are specifically trained to perform work for individuals with a disability. They help a person with a disability lead a more independent life. The Center prepares and trains service dogs in a long and meticulous process that lasts for 1.5-2 years. As part of their training, service dogs are taught public access skills such as house training, settling quietly at the handler’s side in public, and remaining under control in a variety of settings. Trained service dogs are required to pass a public access ability test and strict regulations. The Center trains 5 service dogs each year. However, we have a waiting list of 150 individuals in need of service dogs. To fulfill its mission, the Center provides the following activities: Lobbying governmental authorities and public services in order to promote the importance of service dogs in Israel and raise public awareness to the rights of people using service dogs in the community. Training and providing service dogs at a minimal cost to people in need. Instructing and qualifying service dog trainers based on Assistance Dog International, an international umbrella organization promoting service dogs. Supporting and providing follow-up to individuals with a disability, e.g., people with PTSD, physical or mental disability, Autism, Diabetes or Epilepsy.
