Israeli Institute for Journalism and Media

The Israeli Institute for Journalism and Media, founded in 2021 by Justice (Ret.) Dalia Dorner, aims to promote free and responsible journalism, restore public trust in the media, and foster media literacy, as essential pillars of Israeli democracy and society. Enhancing Media Literacy We aim to equip young people with tools to critically assess and navigate today’s media landscape. Our middle-school course is offered free of charge and delivers hands-on experience in investigative journalism, teaching the role of the media in democracy, fact vs. opinion, fake news and privacy. Our virtual Escape Room presents players with key questions about media consumption through an engaging, competitive experience. Currently, we are planning to launch a social-media project on TikTok and Instagram, using relatable language and up-to-date formats to engage young audience with posts about excellent investigative journalism, fake news, hidden agendas and more. Supporting Journalism and a Free Press The Institute’s yearly Prize for Journalistic Excellence is among the most prestigious journalism awards in Israel. In 2024, each of the four laureates received a prize of NIS 15,000, reflecting our commitment to meaningfully recognizing outstanding work. The awards are presented at the Institute’s annual conference, which also features a journalists’ panel on the challenges facing the media. In addition, our Tik Talk podcast regularly hosts leading journalists, editors, regulators, and media researchers for in-depth conversations about journalism and media key issues.
