The Israel Philharmonic Orchestra (IPO) was founded in 1936 by Jewish violinist Bronislav Huberman, who, anticipating the Holocaust, persuaded 75 of Europe’s finest Jewish musicians to join the Palestine Symphony, later becoming the IPO. Over nearly 90 years, the IPO has grown into a symbol of Israeli culture, using music as a universal language to spread peace, harmony, and tolerance worldwide. Established in 1981, the Israel Philharmonic Foundation supports the IPO in its artistic and educational pursuits, fostering social change through music. The Foundation provides access to classical music for diverse communities, including children, soldiers, and underserved groups across Israel. Its educational programs, such as the KeyNote Program and SULAMOT, reach thousands of children, empowering them through music and fostering resilience, teamwork, and self-confidence. The IPO Foundation also supports the IPO Academy, a special program that offers top-tier orchestral training to young musicians, strengthening the IPO’s role as a global center for musical excellence. Through outreach programs and initiatives like the Shesh Besh Jewish-Arab ensemble, the IPO brings performances to underserved communities and offers free tickets to IDF soldiers and displaced families.
