Shefa – The Israel Institute for Talmudic Publications supports the work and institutions of Rabbi Adin Steinsaltz. It aims to make Jewish learning accessible through publication of the Steinsaltz Talmud and other publications by the Rabbi and to support a network of educational outreach activities for the benefit of Jews in the Former Soviet Union (FSU). His institutions that are referred to are the Mekor Chaim schools (1984). They address what he felt was a void in the educational system and range from pre-school through post-high school yeshiva. The educational programs in the FSU were first started by Rabbi Steinsaltz in the late 1980’s. Current activities include teacher training programs, national speaking tours for Rabbi Steinsaltz, seminars for educators and journalists, publications in Russian for educators and activists, a center in Moscow with a wide range of activities and services, and a website in Russian.
