The Israel Guide Dog Center for the Blind was founded in 1991 and seeks to improve the quality of life of blind people by providing them with safe mobility, independence, and self-confidence through the faithful assistance of guide dogs. The Center provides instruction in Hebrew for both dogs and applicants, training in Israel’s physical environment with its innate challenges (i.e. sidewalks blocked by posts, streetlights, parked cars, concrete barriers at street corners, etc.), access to family and friends during training away, home-based post-class training to help each applicant and guide dog adjust, and aftercare. The dogs are bred and raised as puppies by foster families where they are provided for and adjust to daily life.
