Hillel – The Right to Choose was established in 1991 with the aim of promoting the successful integration of young people who leave the Haredi (ultra-Orthodox) communities to join the open and pluralistic society of modern Israel. Each year, Hillel is approached by some 100 newcomers who are in fact like new immigrants in an alien world facing many absorption related challenges. However, unlike most immigrants, they come from communities that have deliberately cut themselves off from modern influences. Hillel provides them with personal mentors, living accommodations, support groups, scholarship aid, social support (social gatherings, lectures, Holiday celebrations, movies, etc.), educational help, and military preparation.
