The Birth Freedom Israel Movement (Hatnua Lehofesh Behira Baleida) is an Israeli not-for-profit organization that was established about 20 years ago with the intention to promote and advocate for Human rights during pregnancy and Birth. We believe that the Israeli healthcare and legal systems should align with global best practices and allow for a full realization of those rights. Our Vision To promote a change of perception among the public, from perceiving birth as a medical event, to perceiving it as a life-process that is fundamentally physiological and belongs to the mother. We believe that all care providers should do as much as possible in order to encourage and facilitate the physiological course of birth, while paying close attention to the wishes and choices of the woman giving birth. Our Goals: To raise awareness, represent and promote human (women) rights during pregnancy and childbirth. To increase the freedom of choice throughout the process (where to give birth, in what way, which interventions to agree to and which to refuse, and more). To promote conditions that allow for a respectful and supportive birth for both mother and baby. To improve the medical and nursing/midwifery care in all delivery rooms.
