Hamaayan BaNegev is a multifaceted community oriented outreach organization established in Be’er Sheva in 1978. While, most outreach programs are directed for the residents of the Be’er Sheva area, it has also had an international impact in such places as Hong Kong, USA, and France. The organization provides a Student Center for the students of Ben Gurion University that includes a laundry room, computer lab, and a lecture hall. In addition, there are programs like Shabbatons and heritage tours of Europe to connect the students with their Jewish identity. Through its women’s midrashsa, Hamaayan BaNegev also offers educational programs and moral support to young women coming from difficult backgrounds and helps them to rebuild their lives. In addition, the organization provides Passover food packages to needy families, a place for families to stay while visiting sick relatives at the Soroka Medical Center, and classes and holiday gifts for soldiers based in the Southern region of Israel.
