The Shamir Medical Center is Israel?s fourth-largest government hospital, affiliated with the Tel-Aviv University Sackler Faculty of Medicine, offering comprehensive and spearheading medical care. Our mission is to provide the most excellent up-to-date medical services to over 1,000,000 residents of the Shfela region. Established in 1948 and located near the metropolitan city Rishon LeZion, the Yitzhak Shamir Medical Center provides medical care for an ever-growing population of all ethnic groups. Most of our patients belong to the weaker and medium-class social strata of the Israeli population, and our medical center is this population?s “home base” for most medical procedures. Our hospital is, thus, community-based, yet is a state-of-the art tertiary center. For its excellency in providing medical care the Shamir Medical Center was accredited by the Joint Commission International (JCI). Our team includes 4,200 highly skilled physicians, researchers, a medical team, a nursing team and administrators. The Center has 891 general hospitalization beds, 110 day-care beds, 63 infant cribs and 21 surgical rooms, of which 6 are designated for ambulatory surgeries. The Center provides its medical services to a population of 1,000,000 residents of the southern coastal plain area. In 2020, almost 660,000 people were treated at the Center (including visits to clinics and institutes, the emergency room, surgeries, hospitalizations, and births). The Friends Association assists the Shamir Medical Center (Assaf Harofeh) by enlisting public support and mobilizing donations from Israel and from around the world. These are later used to purchase life-saving medical equipment, as investment in the development and training of medical teams, in the expansion and establishment of operating rooms and treatment rooms, and in the construction of new buildings according to the approved master plan for the development of the hospital.
