In Israel there are over 82,000 people who suffer from epilepsy today, Epilepsy is a neurological condition where the brainwaves fire irregularly, which hinder the daily functioning and routine of those with epilepsy as well as close to them, impacting approximately 300,000 people across all demographics. It is not uncommon for patients to be hospitalised for extend periods for regular testing and treatment, and in some cases, can be fatal. Moreover, those who suffer from epilepsy also suffer from social exclusion, prejudice, and find it difficult to seek employment, maintain social relationships and often require assistance and empowerment. The Israel Association for Epilepsy is the only public non profit organization dedicated to help and support these families. Founded in 1985 by parents of children with epilepsy, EYAL, together with the support of neurologists and educators, and an incredible and dedicated team of volunteers tirelessly support and improve the quality of life and well-being of those with epilepsy as well as their families daily.
