Eshel Jerusalem provides life preserving assistance to approximately 100,000 needy families in Israel. We combat hunger daily in partnership with the Israeli Government. We also offer a wide range of material and social services for widowed and indigent families, Holocaust survivors, immigrants, the chronically ill. Eshel Jerusalem services include: -3,000 fresh, cooked meals in our 23 soup kitchens – Meals on wheels for the homebound – Monthly Deliveries of food crates to poor families – Day care centers for working parents? – subsidized weddings – Pediatric dental clinics -Widow and orphans support – Caring for the handicapped and more- Eshel Jerusalem follows two major principles: 1) We help everyone in need, regardless of age, gender, background, or religious affiliation. 2) Maximum leverage: We are constantly on the lookout for ways to leverage each dollar through partnerships, matching grants, and one-time capital investment. THE FOOD BANK: In the late 2000s, the Israeli Government acknowledged that they were woefully underserving those in most need of help from the government. Too many people were suffering from hunger. Recognizing our massive infrastructure and high level of expertise, the government selected us to run the food program and match every dollar we raise. This was the first time the Israeli government actually partnered with an organization to provide its citizens with food. Currently The Food Bank services 10,800 families, including many elderly and holocaust survivors, in 48 Israeli cities. Aside from monthly home deliveries of fresh fruits, vegetables and dry foods, The Food Bank also provides food cards to use in local supermarkets (ensuring the dignity of each recipient).
