Equinote makes culture accessible to individuals and communities that are commonly excluded from these inspirational sources, due to their physical or mental disabilities. Equinote promotes the value of diversity and acceptance of others, through the power of art to bring forth positive change and growth of the human spirit and of society. We create cultural content in collaboration with artists with special needs, and offer it to the general public. In addition, Equinote aims to inspire diverse audiences – people with and without disabilities – to consume and enjoy art together, based on our belief in the power of interpersonal contact and shared experiences to form a basis for improving the general public’s perceptions of people with disabilities, and integrating people with disabilities into society. To achieve these goals, Equinote develops workshops, lectures and performances, with disabled artists that tell their stories through art. Since the outbreak of the war in 2023, Equinote has been actively responding and adapting its activities, programs, and operations to the evolving needs arising both on the home front and at the front lines, within its core field of expertise – accessible culture. The organization rapidly completed the development of therapeutic and respite-oriented content and provided largely volunteer-based support in dozens of evacuation hotels, from the Dead Sea region to Tiberias. This included rehabilitative responses for injured soldiers through the use of adapted musical instruments; individual and group emotional therapy for soldiers and residents of the Gaza border communities suffering from post-trauma; and dedicated support for people with special needs across the country whose emotional distress was intensified by the war. In addition, the organization developed healing sound workshops and therapeutic body mind sessions programs aimed at reducing levels of stress and anxiety and providing early intervention for post-traumatic symptoms. Since 2020, Equinote has also been delivering post-trauma support related to the COVID-19 lockdowns, including performances and training for ERAN (emotional first aid hotline) volunteers, therapeutic cultural programming via Zoom for special-needs populations, and additional initiatives
