In Israel, thousands of teenagers face severe challenges like violence, neglect, and social isolation, which often lead to criminal behavior and disengagement from society. Founded in 2015, Darna – A Safe Home for At-Risk Youth provides a unique educational and therapeutic boarding environment designed to help these youth, aged 14-19, rebuild their lives. Located near Ruppin College in Emek Hefer, Darna supports teenagers referred by Israels Ministry of Welfare and the courts, often as a last opportunity to turn their lives around. Darnas comprehensive rehabilitation program combines three integrated components: education, personal empowerment, and psychological therapy. Academics are at the heart of the program, motivating youth to pursue high school diplomas. Complementing this is a personal empowerment program that provides challenging, hands-on activities to build resilience, trust, and self-confidence. To address the trauma and emotional needs of each participant, personalized psychological therapy is provided up to three times weekly. In 2021, Darna launched Israel’s first on-site special education school within a youth boarding facility, setting a model that has inspired national efforts to replicate its success. Darna also offers a comprehensive alumni program, including a residence in Herzliya for graduates without family support, to ensure a smooth transition to independent adult life. Darna is recognized as a leading boarding school, known for its high-quality and impressive achievements.
