The program was founded in 2009 with the main goal to help young people of Ethiopian origin to integrate the academic world, first by studying for an academic degree and later on by attaining a position suitable to these studies. After 7 years of activity the program has accumulated a vast knowledge of the needs and rights of this community in the academic field and it now serves as a source of information concerning academic institutions and academic studies for these young people when they are looking to start their studies. Yoel is the only program which operates in close collaboration with preparatory schools, at first the preparatory school of Tel Aviv University and as of 2015 the preparatory school of Bar Ilan University. Yoel program also collaborates with most of the academic institutions and relevant non-profit organizations, for the benefit of candidates in search of the optimal plan to achieve their goals. In the preparatory school the program has a specific plan which provides its students with assistance in daily studies, personal mentoring, group workshops, stipend and a grant for the dorms. This activity is later complimented by mentors who help these young people throughout their academic studies. Since the program, started its activity it has 110 graduates with a 65% success rate of integration of participants of the program in academic studies, of which 35% have already graduated and most of them have found adequate jobs.
