While Israel’s healthcare system provides medical treatment and care to all citizens, health insurance providers do not provide medical home care equipment. There are a few organizations in Israel that have developed innovative programs to lend home medical equipment to patients in need, but communities in the geographic periphery do not always have easy access to these important services. In communities such as Tzoran- a 30-minute drive to the nearest city, Netanya- there are significant numbers of people struggling to find access to affordable basic medical equipment. Our Approach and Solution Recognizing this increasing need in the community of Tzoran, “Hayofi B’netina”- The Beauty of Giving -was established by Rabbi Meir Cohen, the Director of the local Chabad of Tzoran. From the outset, The Beauty of Giving consulted with organizations such as Yad Sarah and Ezer Mezion to learn from their combined experiences and to implement some of their best practices. The program is an opportunity to provide Hesed- acts of loving kindness- to all people in times of medical need. Since 2010, The Beauty of Giving has provided thousands of people in the Tzoran area with much-needed medical equipment, enabling them to better cope with illness and injury in their community. How it Works Operating six days a week, the initiative lends medical equipment to any and all people who request it, at any time of day. All medical equipment is purchased new and stored locally in Tzoran at the organization’s storefront. Based on a network of volunteers, patients contact The Beauty Of Giving via Whatsapp, Facebook, or phone, and a team of twelve dedicated volunteers is quickly mobilized to meet the patient at the organization’s physical location. The Beauty of Giving not only lends patients the necessary medical equipment but provides a warm smile and a lending hand during times of uncertainty.
