Breaking Waves – Association for Post-Trauma Rehabilitation and Prevention. “Breaking Waves” is a rehabilitation organization that supports those coping with PTSD as a result of exposure to the October 7th attacks and the following “Iron Swords” War. It provides also a setting for the prevention of development of post-traumatic stress disorder. Our participants are combat soldiers, reservists, policemen, security personnel and civilians who have experienced trauma during the events of October 7th and the Iron Swords War: those who have suffered both psychological as well as physical injuries. The majority struggle with sleep disorders, anxiety, social withdrawal, and loss of trust, yet they express a deep and sincere desire to heal and rediscover meaning and belonging. Our mission is to help those who have been broken by war to find their way back into society and regain faith in themselves. Our method is not classical nor typical psychotherapy in a clinic, but through group experience, movement, and reconnection with nature -based on biophilia, through marine rehabilitation activities, we reactivate basic functional skills and assist in reigniting emotions and abilities that have degenerated or become numb, such as trust, a grip on life, hope and fulfillment. We transform our boat into a vessel that provides a safe haven for regaining a sense of home and trust which then enables rehabilitation and returns trauma victims to being able to cope with their daily lives and even thrive. Our vision is to expand our activity nationwide, establish a permanent maritime rehabilitation center, develop a training program for therapeutic skippers, and position Breaking Waves as a national model for sea-based trauma recovery, all for the sake of those who have given so much and for a better and healthier society in our country for years to come.
