The Bnei Akiva Youth Movement is the largest Religious- Zionist youth movement in Israel, with over 60,000 participants in 400 branches across Israel. The mission of Bnei Akiva is to live a life of “Torah V’Avodah” that is expressed by the participants connection to Torah and the Jewish People. In the 88 transpiring years Bnei Akiva has continued to grow and develop, and remain dynamic, innovative and young in spirit, while remaining true to the core values The Bnei Akiva Movement was founded in the Spring of 1929 with the aim “to educate generations of young Jews to be faithful to their people and its Land, and live self-sufficiently in the spirit of the Torah Judaism”. Over the years the Movement has championed working in all areas of the country and with the entire gamut of populations who support its mission, from all ethnic backgrounds, veteran Israelis and new immigrants, and individuals who subscribe to varying social-political perspectives. Bnei Akiva has never limited its activities to affluent communities, but rather has reached out to the full cross-section of traditional Israeli youth, irrespective of social class or family status. Today Bnei Akiva counts among its graduates individuals in all walks of life in Israel, including key positions in education, in religious institutions, the military, academia, law and economics, medicine, science, and art. Our main Educational Social activities: The Yovel Troop – Special needs children are integrated into Bnei Akiva branches throughout the country, in their areas of residence. Each troop includes about ten children who participate in all Bnei Akiva activities during the week, on Shabbat, in camps and in key Movement events (e.g., Shabbat Irgun) ,with guidance from dedicated troop leaders. The Shachar Project – A framework for some 250 Bnei Akiva youth committed to cultivating a grassroots, values-driven leadership from among the Ethiopian Israeli community. These youth serve as personal role models to their own community and 1500 graduates of the project over the past 15 years are currently integrated into a wide range of personal and professional areas of activity in Israeli society. Garin Yonatan – A framework for leadership development among 9th through 12th graders in Israel’s distressed urban neighborhoods and peripheries. Teens in the project attend weekly activities aimed to strengthen values and in addition each is counseled individually by a Bnei Akiva leader. Each group of youth within the project create a program in own their neighborhood/town in which they mentor the local kids.
