Since 2003, BBBS has been making a significant contribution to lonely children and teens from single parent families. These Little Brothers and Sisters, many of whom are pre-risk and at-risk, are matched with dedicated, adult volunteer mentors (Big Brothers and Sisters) who meet together weekly in order to achieve a warm, supportive and long-lasting relationship. We are constantly receiving feedback regarding the changes that transpire as these children move forward in life and choose to contribute to society. Furthermore, of the thousands of pairs that were matched since the inception of BBBS, many of our pairs today have been meeting for eight and nine years – a benchmark of success and a testament to our expertise in supporting long-term mentoring relationships. In 2009, BBBS received the prestigious Mayor of Jerusalem’s Award for Excellence in Volunteerism. Bestowed upon a very small group of organizations and individuals, the award is testimony to the importance and necessity of long-term volunteer mentoring for children and youth from single-parent families, and to our organization’s ability to maintain high-quality volunteer experiences year after year. One of our core goals is to utilize volunteerism as a means for long-lasting social change. Last year, the Haifa Big Brothers Big Sisters organization officially joined us as a recognized branch of our national organization. This development has been years in the working and we are now able to serve residents in the general Haifa area, expanding our reach to northern Israel. BBBS has branches in Jerusalem, Gush Etzion, Tel Aviv, Ramat Gan, Or Yehuda, Netanya, Kfar Saba, Ra’anana, Beer Sheva and Haifa.
