Beterem Safe Kids Israel is the first and only nonprofit organization in Israel dedicated to fostering a culture focused on child safety. It was established by a pair of pediatricians who were frustrated by the high number of children they treated for unintentional injuries. Our mission is to reduce injuries and fatalities caused by accidents, which we pursue through research, public awareness campaigns, legislative initiatives, and training programs. Over the course of 27 years, Beterem, in collaboration with its partners, has successfully reduced child mortality related to accidents by 53%. Here are some figures that illustrate the current situation in Israel: -On average, a child is admitted to the Emergency Room (ER) every 3 minutes due to unintentional injuries. -Unintentional injuries account for more than 1/3 of child ER admissions. -The mortality rate due to unintentional injuries in Israel stands at 4.6 per 100,000 children. Our operating method includes: -Data collection and analyzing. -Conducting research to inform our initiatives. -Developing, tailoring and implementing intervention programs to address specific needs. -Creating culturally-sensitive wide public awareness initiatives and campaigns. -Disseminating child-safety information to the public. -Advocating for child-safety legislation and regulations in the Knesset and other public forums. -Providing safety training programs for professionals and the general public. Based on extensive international experience and results, most injuries are preventable. Beterem possesses the expertise to prevent these injuries and save lives. Moreover, Beterem represents Israel in two esteemed international organizations, the European Child Safety Alliance (ECSA) and Safe Kids Worldwide.
