The Attention Revolution is an Israeli social movement dedicated to creating a balanced and beneficial relationship between people and digital technology. Founded and led by social entrepreneur Asaf Bener, with theoretical foundations by Dr. Micah Goodman (author of “The Attention Revolution”), the movement addresses the alarming trends of the digital age: a 145% increase in adolescent depression since 2010, declining attention spans, increased self-harm among teens, and heightened social polarization. Our Theory of Change combines breadth and depth: reaching thousands through educational programs while achieving lasting transformation through intensive community collaboration. Rather than advocating for digital abstinence, we seek to restore human control over technology through evidence-based approaches. Community-Led Transformation: At the heart of our work is a proven community organizing model. We facilitate processes bringing together parents, educators, and community leaders to collectively address digital challenges in their local context. We guide school and parent communities in creating balanced technology environments – establishing collective agreements on device ownership age and developing sustainable usage norms that support healthy child development. These grassroots processes create shared norms and mutual support systems that transform entire social ecosystems. In just two years, we’ve implemented this unique model with approximately 50 school communities in major cities like Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. Proven Impact: 15,000 participants engaged through educational programs, impacting over 20,000 children in dozens of school communities. Partnerships with the IDF, the President’s Office, leading school networks, and local authorities nationwide. Research-Driven Approach: We developed the Digital Balance Index – an innovative assessment tool integrating academic insights with practical applications, providing data-driven insights that inform personalized interventions and broader strategies for individuals and communities.
