The Association for the Elderly in Bat Yam has cared for the city’s senior citizens since 1983, working hand in hand with the municipality, government offices and health services. Our mission is to ensure dignity for the elderly while improving their sense of security and quality of life. We operate two professional day care centers – including a dedicated unit for people with dementia – offering medical, therapeutic, social and cognitive programs, two hot meals a day and door-to-door transportation. Our Supportive Community program allows seniors to keep living at home safely: each member has a “House Father” for everyday help and home repairs, an emergency security button linked to a 24/7 call center, access to home doctor visits and ambulance services, social activities and volunteer visits for the home-bound and bedridden. An advice center guides the elderly and their families on their rights and entitlements, and we place temporary caregivers for those awaiting a permanent one. Bat Yam is home to approximately 5,500 Holocaust survivors, many of whom live alone and in financial hardship; our enrichment activities, courses, trips and cultural outings give them companionship and meaning. We also train our staff, volunteers and family caregivers in CPR, dementia care, and coping with loss and end of life. Donations support daily meals, transportation, home improvement, cultural and enrichment programs and professional training for the senior citizens of Bat Yam.
