The Sha’ar Hanegev Regional Council is located near the Gaza Strip. It’s Inhabited by approximately 6,000 people, who live on 10 Kibbutzim, and one Moshav spread along the border (3 of the kibbutzim are located 800 m from the fence). One of the greatest challenges of living in Sha’ar Hanegev is the dire security situation. The residents of the region have been dealing with over than 10 years of constant firing of Kassam missiles that had a direct effect on the daily functioning as well as on businesses, educational institutes, and other organizations. Additionally, In the past decade, the Sha’ar Hanegev settlements have encountered a difficult economic situation, which has necessitated far-reaching changes in the financial management of the kibbutz. The members’ budgets have been privatized, a change which has damaged them financially and morally. The first to be hit by this measure were the elderly, who found themselves in need of dealing with their financial and social problems alone. The combination between the occurrences mentioned above led stress to become a major element in the seniors’ lives.
