EMDA – Alzheimer’s Association of Israel was founded in 1988 by a local self-help group that decided to establish a national association. EMDA members include people with Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and related disorders and their families, alongside health-care and mental-care professionals. EMDA is a full member of Alzheimer’s Disease International and maintains strong ties with it and other international associations. Its goals include constructing a network of information and emotional support for family members; establishing community, treatment, and care services for people with AD; informing the general public about AD and related disorders, and increasing awareness; lobbying for promoting the rights of the people with dementia and their families; cooperation with professional groups and organizations.
