Distribution of Food Distribution of food baskets to needy Ethiopian families. The distribution schedule is every Friday and before all holidays and special observances. Currently we are distributing food baskets to thirty needy families. In reality, our list of needy families has an additional twenty needy families but budgetary constraints prevent us from distributing food to all fifty needy families. Programs for Youth-at-Risk We work to foster positivity in their lives and to encourage them in their studies. We provide counseling to help them in their peer-to-peer interactions, student to teacher interactions, and interactions with their parents and families. If needed, we can help with finding tutors or other homework help. Strengthening their Jewish Identity .We gather youth who have dropped out of the religious state school and have thus begun forgetting and neglecting Judaism. We provide Torah classes in the evenings, purchase tefillin for them and provide religious instruction and counseling. Rabbis serve as mentors to these youth, encouraging them in their religious observances. For families we provide assistance with making Bar Mitzvah for their boys, purchasing tefillin, celebrations of Brit Milah, and general guidance in Judaic observance. Strengthening their Zionism By helping these immigrants, both in receiving the assistance they need from the various agencies of Israel which are set up for this very purpose and in receiving assistance from Achenu, we are strengthening their Zionism. This kind of assistance paves the way for a positive impression of Israel and thus strengthens their goodwill toward their new homeland supporting Israel is a foundation of Zionism. Strengthening Family Structures and Dynamics We work to bridge the gap between the youth and their immigrant parents who have difficulties stemming from exposure, or lack thereof, to different cultures and cultural norms. We use tours and seminars as the perfect opportunity to create more closeness and understandings between the youth and their parents. Furthermore, we are working with families in distress in particular single parent families. Many of these are young girls who have become mothers without a partner and face many difficulties as young, single, and largely poor mothers. A support system is crucial for these families.
