Israel is a diverse country, home to Jews, Muslims, Christians, Druze, and other minority communities. However, significant health disparities persist within this rich cultural landscape, disproportionately impacting the Arab population. According to Israel’s Ministry of Health, Arab children experience higher rates of obesity and diabetes, with these gaps widening into adulthood. Alarmingly, the diabetes-related mortality rate in Arab communities is three times higher than in the general population. Additionally, Arab children are 2-3 times more likely to suffer serious injuries in accidents compared to their Jewish peers. Arab women are less likely to undergo genetic testing before pregnancy, and early detection rates for breast cancer remain critically low. These challenges are compounded by limited awareness of proper nutrition and the importance of regular exercise. Addressing these disparities is essential to fostering a healthier and more equitable future for all. Our NGO is committed to reducing health inequalities in Israel, with a primary focus on addressing complex health challenges within the Arab-Israeli sector. We work to break down cultural and accessibility barriers that hinder individuals from fully recognizing and understanding health risks and effectively utilizing the healthcare system. Our mission includes fostering collaboration with civil society organizations focused on health in Arab communities and promoting medical specializations that are underrepresented among Arab healthcare professionals, such as psychiatry (particularly child psychiatry), public health, and rehabilitation. Our initiatives include training programs for doctors and healthcare workers on health literacy and healthy lifestyles, as well as workshops for women on maintaining well-being. Additionally, we run educational programs in schools to promote health awareness from an early age. Through these comprehensive efforts, we aim to eliminate educational and cultural obstacles, improve health outcomes, and ensure equitable access to quality healthcare for all communities in Israel.
