Makom LeKulam A Place for All Makom LeKulam was founded in 2010 to transform Israeli society to be more welcoming of and accessible to people with disabilities. Our programs: 1. Creating a place for all A. Leadership groups for young people dealing with disabilities: Through our flagship Young leadership program, ?Makom LeKulam? empowers young people with disabilities to create social change and make a meaningful contribution to the state while the same time acquiring important skills for independence and employment. The young leaders undergo intensive training in leadership skills, public speaking, group facilitation, as well as education around the range of issues related to disabilities and accessibility. They implement ongoing educational programs in 10-15 schools reaching out to 2000 pupils a year. B. Educational programs in the formal educational system directed to changing attitudes towards people with disabilities, raising awareness regarding accessibility for people with disabilities, so that the students will lead the way to real change. The educational programs Include: The educational programs are developed by the organization?s staff and are tailored to the age of the participants: acquainting them with people with disabilities and helping them to get to know the human being behind the disability; allowing them to experience difficulties in accessibility; providing them with information about other issues related to people with disabilities in accordance with the age of the participants; putting the learned material into practice in order to create change ? all done in an experiential way via readily accessible means. The educational programs are implemented by young leaders from the organization who deal with different challenges and disabilities and undergo intensive training. C. Workshops for different populations ?Makom LeKulam? young leaders are frequently invited to provide workshops on accessibility and acceptance to a variety of audiences, including IDF leadership, educators and community leaders. 2. Empowerment of teachers in the era of inclusion ? providing tools and means for dealing with related issues. A training program for teachers on the subject of inclusion, placing emphasis on empowerment of the included child as a key to the success of the inclusion. The training and counseling will be provided by an integrated team including people with disabilities, in accordance with the model promoted by the organization
